Poor quality, even worse customer support, October 2, 2001
This review is from: Cuisinart SPB-7CH SmartPower 40-Ounce 7-Speed Electronic Bar Blender, Chrome (Kitchen)

We have been using this blender for about seven months. We make daily smoothies with crushed ice (crushed from our ice maker) and frozen fruit (bananas, strawberries, etc.) and milk or juice. We have always noticed a slight electrical smell from the unit whenever we were mixing our drinks. The quality of the blend was generally OK; occasionally it was unable to break up some of the ice chunks.

A plastic part on the base of the unit ended up shattering. This is a cheap plastic piece that turns the blade. I e-mailed Cuisinart’s customer service group. It was a couple of weeks before they returned my e-mail. I had also left messages with their customer service number. After a few attempts I was finally able to speak with someone. I was told that I would have to send the blender back to them, at my cost, and include a ten-dollar check for them to repair the unit. After I told them that their policy was against the law in the State of California they agreed to issue a pickup tag with UPS and waived the ten-dollar fee.

I finally received a new blender back about a month and a half later. I will never purchase another Cuisinart product. We have since replaced the blender with a Kitchen Aid KSB5. So far this blender is incredible. It makes easy work of blending ice. I cannot recommend the Cuisinart because of its lack of reliability and Cuisinart’s non-existent customer service.

*** Update ***

This review was first placed in 2001. It is now April 2009 and the Kitchen Aid KSB5 is still running strong!

I received my blender for Christmas 2000. I only used it infrequently for milkshakes. 2 days ago the black plastic gear at the base of the blender broke into 4 pieces! I called the customer support center and they told me to mail it to them ( at my expense) but they could not give me an estimate on how much it would end up costing me to have it fixed! I have since learned that this is a very common problem ( they acted as if they had never heard of the problem) It seems to me a [dollar amount] blender should not have plastic gears… I am very dissatisfied with the product and the customer support!!!

I just got this yesterday from Amazon. I was so excited opening it…then my hopes were dashed. This thing is 100% plastic! I have not decided whether I’m going to return it or not, but be aware…that cool chrome look is exactly that, a look…and you can tell without touching it–just a little too shiny. The pitcher bottom is black plastic along with a plastic top…it’s so full of plastic it hardly weighs anything…in other words, it feels cheap. For 0 bucks I’m very disapointed. The contols will be easy to clean if I keep it though.

Love it. So easy to use even I can do it. I make

‘casserol’-type stuff and blend the liquids, dairy,

eggs and stuff with this first always resulting

in smoother textured and tasting dish! Ditto

for adding things like cream cheese or Java Juice

to brownie batter. So simple

This review is from: Cuisinart CSB-76PK Smart Stick Hand Blender, Pink (Kitchen)

I just bought this and have only had it now for a couple of weeks. It works well and does what it is intended to do. I only have one little nit picky thing to say about it, and I know this sounds silly…but the cord is black and i wish it was white. This is minor and has nothing to do with how the piece functions, but I also bought the electric cookie press at the same time I bought the blender and the power cord on it is white. I do think that this goes better with the pink and don’t quite understand why the company would attach a black cord to this item.

I love this thing!!!, November 24, 2010
This review is from: Cuisinart CSB-76TQ Smart Stick Hand Blender, Turquoise (Kitchen)

I got one of these as a gift recently. I have since used it as an excuse to blend EVERYTHING! I have made several batches of soups and gravy’s with this, including lentil and potato soup. its quiet, surprisingly light, and absolutely effective. I haven’t tried blending anything frozen with it, yet. The metal shaft makes for super easy clean up. the thing seems really durable.

Generally I’m a Kitchenaid groupy, however their comparable stick has crappy reviews, and parts problems. Cuisinart does make a lot of really quality machines, and since its a a good brand you can buy replacement blades and such for it. I never buy anything I cant buy replacement parts for, due to extreme blend a thons those blades wont last forever, but you hope the motors will! I love it so much I’m buying one for my mother!

I suppose if you look at the spectrum of “turquoise” this fits. However, I would say it leans toward the green side-almost minty but not quite. If you think for a minute this will work with the Kitchen Aid Aqua keep looking. Otherwise the product is perfectly fine. Since this will not be sitting out on my counter and it does the job I decided to keep it.

Cool Kitchen Gadget!!, June 19, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
This review is from: Cuisinart CSB-77 Smart Stick Hand Blender with Whisk and Chopper Attachments (Kitchen)

I purchased this product mainly for making soups. I hated having to put soup into the blender in bathces to puree it. Not only was this time consuming but I usually made a huge mess in the process. Well this product solved that problem for me. I made a soup the other day and used this product to blend the soup right in the pot! While I was nervous about “only” being able to run the blender continuously for 50 seconds, I learned that 50 seconds is more than enough time for this item to blend a whole pot of soup, in fact it only took about 15-20 seconds.

I have also used the grinder attachment to mince fresh parsley, and have also made a smoothie using the included measuring cup and blender.

Although the manual states that you cannot run this product for more than a certain amount of time (depending on the function), I have learned that this product can accomplish those tasks easily in the time frames given (it took 5 seconds to mince my parsley!).

I cannot comment on the warranty as I have not had a problem with this item, but for the price if it fails I would most likely just buy a new one.

My only complaint would be that the whisk attachment seems very flimsy, but I have not actually used the whisk attachment yet, so I assume that it will work just fine for light tasks such as whisking egg whites. Although based on the feel of it I would not use it for much else.

However, I have a feeling that I am going to continue to find uses for this wonderful little gadget. For the price this item is a great buy.

Rubbish!, October 16, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
This review is from: Cuisinart CSB-77 Smart Stick Hand Blender with Whisk and Chopper Attachments (Kitchen)

I would like to give it no stars but that’s an option on Amazon rating. Bought in May (but only used about 4 times since then as we were away for a long summer). Used to blend tinned tomatoes. Worked fine couple of times then blades in blender, chopper and whisk turned very slowly and seemed to squeal when motor ran. Called up Cuisinart and they sent me a new kit. Same thing happened. So I called again and they sent me chopper lid and whisk attachment (only blender had worked in new kit). Now I’ve the handstick that works very well (for how long though?), chopper grinder doesn’t work at all and neither does whisk. I looked inside the motor shaft and these “stripped teeth” everyone in the one-star category keeps on about are also looking that way in mine (I hadn’t looked in the original one I sent back). Unfortunately I hadn’t read the bad reviews before I bought it, and it seems that this “teeth stripping” is a continual problem with most of their hand sticks. I’ve already spent between sending it back the first time and then receiving the new parts….I’d like to ask for a total refund for the now + I’ve spent on it but I think such a request is futile.

I don’t know about the warranty stuff, and I’ve only had this a week or so, but I love it. I always hated ladling chunky soup into the blender, thence into another bowl while I did further batches, making a mess at every stage. With this I did a big bowl of soup, put the hand blender into it and in maybe 15 seconds it was perfectly pureed. Moreover, a note in the manual led me to using it every morning to froth the almond milk I use in my latte, at which it does a fantastic job–again, 15 seconds or so and way better than you get at Starbucks (though a good barrista can still do a better job with steam). Terrific.

Functional, effective blender for simple uses, January 15, 2010
By
Kedar Deshpande (Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA) – See all my reviews
This review is from: Black & Decker BLT5650 ProBlend Die-Cast Blender with 48-Ounce Glass Jar (Kitchen)

I’m not a hardcore blender-user nor do I need a blender that crushes ice cubes and whatnot. As such, if you’re a heavy blender user or want to crush ice, maybe this model is not for you. However, if you like to make the occasional fruit smoothie, and have simple needs, this unit might fit the bill.

I bought it from Target in July 2009. I use it about once a week and it has never given me any problems. Every once in a while I need to break up amalgamations at the bottom of the glass pitcher, but that’s rare.

Usually my smoothies consist of oats, soy milk, bananas and some frozen berries. The blender doesn’t haven problems with these ingredients and, because many of the ingredients are already cold or frozen, there’s no need for me to add ice (maybe this is why my blender hasn’t broken down).

If I were in the market for a new blender, I might think twice about Black & Decker if only because all of their models seem to be getting negative reviews. Oster seems to be the blender of choice these days. That said, if you just want a simple machine that looks nice and isn’t too expensive, this one has been good to me.

This review is from: Black & Decker BLT5650 ProBlend Die-Cast Blender with 48-Ounce Glass Jar (Kitchen)

I wish I had looked at the reviews for this blender on Target and other sites before I bought it.

This does not handle ice at all….and I was using crushed ice with my smoothie.

It just stops and won’t go. Really does not keep running thru anything, not just ice.

Right out of the box, Brand New this blender was a huge disappointment. I am returning it and I am looking for a Professional grade.

I thought this one might be fine for just making shakes, smoothies etc…but it is

just junk. More frustration than my very old Oster.

Avoid this one.

Did not last 30 days – avoid, November 2, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
This review is from: Black & Decker BLT5650 ProBlend Die-Cast Blender with 48-Ounce Glass Jar (Kitchen)

My son used this blender at another house and liked it. He drinks protein smoothies almost daily. Within a few days of use, he said he felt it was losing power. After 3 weeks, it gave out. We put in crushed ice, frozen fruit and fruit juice – he knows he has to add enough juice to not overwhelm the blender. Our last one (Oster) lasted over a year, so it wasn’t a problem with technique. Amazon didn’t have reviews but once it broke down, I found lots of poor reviews on other websites. Best to avoid this blender, IMO.

Really, really, really bad., August 6, 2009
This review is from: Black & Decker BLC10650MB Cyclone 10-Speed Blender with 48-Ounce Glass Jar (Kitchen)

I have no idea if they still make this thing, so I may be wasting a review. But, if they do… don’t buy it. It’s absolutely horrible. Controls are funky. Lid fits oddly and is hard to get on and off and most of all, it’s just a terrible blender. Most attempts don’t end with a smoothie, they end up with a soupy liquid with huge chunks of unblended ice. I’m not sure how you design a blender that literally can’t blend, but Black and Decker has done it. I used to own one of the cheap, Oster models from target and that thing blends circles around this piece of junk. Save your money and absolutely do not buy this atrocity.

This review is from: Black & Decker BLC10650MB Cyclone 10-Speed Blender with 48-Ounce Glass Jar (Kitchen)

I purchased this blender because of the power and low cost. However, it screws on to its base strangly and a bit dangerously! While trying to get it on one day I wasn’t doing something correctly and the entire assembly came apart. It was in 7-8 pieces..nuts, bolts, washers, blades, etc. Just now, I plugged it in and it was already on. The clear removable part on the lid fell inside and the blades ripped it to pieces. It was flying like glass all over my kitchen. I had to close my eyes and unplug it from the wall. Though I am impressed with the way it shredded the plastic with the powerful motor, it almost took an eye! And, now I have to have something over the lid so the liquid doesn’t fly out! I wouldn’t recommend this blender unless you want to risk your body for the powerful motor! However, it doesn’t crush ice nearly as well as it did that lid!

It’s a Nightmare, July 12, 2010
This review is from: Black & Decker BLC10650MB Cyclone 10-Speed Blender with 48-Ounce Glass Jar (Kitchen)

I used this blender maybe 40 times. I thew the entire thing in the trash yesterday.

Many times I noticed little black pieces coming off the blender after blending my smoothies. They are PLASTIC pieces that connect to the blades and make the blades spin… how cheap.

Yesterday, while I was attempting to blend my smoothie, the entire bottom of the blender began to violently spin around my kitchen counter as smoothie flooded out of the bottom. I had to unplug it from the wall because I couldn’t reach the buttons.

I should have gotten a new one sooner anyways because it never blended very well either. I always had giant pieces of fruit that couldn’t be blended into the rest of the smoothie.

Don’t buy it. It’s a waste of money.

Don’t fool yourself into buying a B&D appliance, May 3, 2010
This review is from: Black & Decker BLC12650HB Cyclone 12-Speed Blender, Black (Kitchen)

You’re not going to be the lucky one who gets a decent amount of use out of this thing. If you’re like me, using it on an almost daily basis, it will work for a month or two. One day the blade assembly will magically disintegrate and you’ll be looking at a replacement cost, with shipping, of to . That means you could spend 0 to keep this thing running for a year, assuming nothing but the blade breaks on a regular basis. Suddenly an Kitchenaide doesn’t look like such a bad deal.

Dummies like me buy these things because the nice, heavy-looking glass jar gives the illusion of quality. It reminded me of the blender my parents had for years and years when I was a kid. This is not that blender. For shame, for shame, Mssrs. Black and Decker!

great value and good product overall, June 19, 2010
This review is from: Black & Decker BLC12650HB Cyclone 12-Speed Blender, Black (Kitchen)

mind you i’ve had the blender less than a week but i’ve been making “ice cream” with it and there’s never any ice chunks or unpleasantries left in the jar after i finish blending it. It works fantastic really, sometimes it gets a bit jammed so i pop the little thing off the lid and add some liquid and blends it right in. The design is sleek and looks great as well. So i’ve used it with ice, frozen fruit, and cottage cheese to make a really thick smoothie and it was great. I’ve used it to blend veggies and broth for soup, not hard, but again it worked well.

We love it!, March 21, 2010

We have had our blender for about two months, and we use it all the time. We use it to make smoothies, milkshakes, and we use it for cooking. It is very powerful and can blend anything. The thing we love most about it is how easy it is to clean up. The bottom isn’t cupped so it makes it easy to get a wet rag in and wipe it off. And if something spills it just drips down the side and doesn’t get trapped inside. The price was awesome and it arrived sooner than expected. We would recommend this blender to anyone.

Great Value, April 25, 2010
This review is from: Black & Decker BL10450HB Crush Master 10-Speed Blender with 42-Ounce Glass Jar, Black (Kitchen)

I purchased this item a few weeks ago and I have been happy overall with it. It was reasonably priced () and looked like it had more power, speeds settings and features than comparable products. I use it primarily for making smoothies/frozen drinks and it performs very well, I also use it to blend food for cooking. I particularly like the heavy glass pitcher which has contours on the inside to guide the contents back down into the blades. Great design there as well as the latching bottom of the pitcher into the base. Very solid and powerful unit when assembled and full. The only thing I don’t like about this is the design of the lid. The clear plastic cap in the middle of the lid does not snap in securely enough to allow you to remove the entire lid assembly (which must be grasped at the outside rim, rather wide for small hands). Overall a great purchase.

plastic gear drive broke after third use, June 23, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
This review is from: Black & Decker BL10450HB Crush Master 10-Speed Blender with 42-Ounce Glass Jar, Black (Kitchen)

We use our blender 2-4 times a week, and they typically have a lifespan of about 1-3 years, so after doing a ton of research I figured it would be more cost effective to buy a cheap blender every couple of years than shell out several hundred dollars for a really expensive blender that would last up to ten years. However the crush master was just not built well. It left chunks of ice in the jar and did not have enough power to make a “smooth” smoothie. You had to constantly stir to get the contents to blend. The third time using it, one of the plastic gears broke off of the bottom. Amazon was great about the return. I printed out the return label and they sent UPS to pick it up the next day. A week later I got fully refunded for the purchase. So after that we decided to spend a bit more money and went with the oster classic beehive blender (which you can also buy on amazon). It works wonderfully, has a metal gear drive, higher wattage and crushes up magaritas and smoothies in seconds. In the future I will keep our blenders in the 60-80 dollar range as it seems like anything cheaper than that is just not going to work in our household.

Buying my 3rd one, grrrrrrr…., March 11, 2009
This review is from: KitchenAid 56-Ounce Blender Pitcher with Black Lid (Kitchen)

These plastic jars just don’t last. I don’t know how this even qualifies as a viable product. We have to replace ours every several months. We don’t do anything abnormal with it. Smoothies mainly, and we use our icemaker to pre-crush the ice for it (since we know it’s so sensitive). It doesn’t take long for cracks to appear, and then come the sticky leaks that get all over the blender and the counter. And, it’s so expensive. Unfortunately, our blender (the KSB-580, which is similar to the 560, I think) doesn’t take the standard glass jar. Big mistake on our part. At some point, I guess, we’ll need to buy a new blender so we don’t have to keep replacing the jar. Argh.

Cracked after a year of light use, August 18, 2010

I’ve had this blender for about a year. It has two cracks in the bottom that cause leakage whenever it’s used. And they have the nerve to ask for a replacement?

A pox on all their houses.

cracks under normal use, August 16, 2010
This review is from: KitchenAid 56-Ounce Blender Pitcher with Black Lid (Kitchen)

I purchased a kitchen aid blender thinking I was getting a quality product. After a year of normal use, multiple cracks started to appear in the base of the jar. Food residue gets trapped in the cracks & the jar now leaks from the base. I would like to replace the jar and not have to buy an entire new blender, but I’m not willing to pay 50.00 plus shipping for another poorly made product. A glass replacement would be nice!
