Honest Review For Hamilton Beach 52147H Blender, June 1, 2009

There are two types of people I feel sorry for. The one type are the people who give this product a negative review because they can’t follow some simple instructions, and the other being the people who will be put off buying this blender because of the first. I have been using this device a lot for a while now and the bottom line is that it works great. Just as with anything else, as long as you take care of it properly then it will last a while. The whole thing is extremely easy to put together and take apart. I was able to figure it out with common sense and not even reading the directions the first time I put it together. I later went back and read the instructions to confirm what I had already figured out. I have blended using both the cups and the big blender jar and I am proud to report that it has fully blended all of my fresh AND frozen fruit until totally smooth with no big chunks of fruit. As a lesson to the other negative reviewers here are a few common sense points I have put together for you and others that may have problems. #1 – A blender is supposed to be loud (in case you have never used one before) #2 – If you are blending a smoothie, the more you blend/pulse the smoother it will be! If you only blend for 10 seconds then you will have a lot of chunks of fruit. There’s a reason why most if not all of the smoothie recipes tell you to add liquid as well. I RARELY write reviews on amazon but I felt compelled to after reading the ridiculous negative reviews of this blender. Enjoy!

As with any kitchen appliance… you must know how to properly operate it to give a fair evaluation. I couldn’t undertand how people reported having “chunks” that could not blend. Sad to say…I now realize that most of the poor reviews were from people who don’t know how to properly make a smoothie…

I purchased this blender for a 4th of July outdoor event where I sold smoothies to the public…. I sold 230 ea. (20 oz.) during the day. This machine worked perfectly… blended smooth, powerful, 80 oz. capacity pitcher is a huge bonus for parties but can also blend single 20 oz portions without a problem.

BIGGEST ADVANTAGE…..

NO AIR GAP !!! Most blenders create an “air bubble” when blending…Some Smoothie machines have a “Wand” that helps you stir while blending, to keep from the Air Gap from happening…. The Twin Blade system creates a smooth distribution of liquid and keeps the mixture moving…. This is a definite advantage over a single blade smoothie…

I love this machine… Was actually very inexpensive compared to a commercial blender I was considering for my event. On July 5th… I purchased one for my home !!!

As a professional chef, I would highly recommend this blender…

This is the perfect smoothie maker!, March 31, 2009

I dont know what everyone is complaining about, this is the best dang thing I’ve purchased in a long time! I use it only for smoothies. I bought it because it has dual blades, dual chambers, separate cups – but you can do 2 cups at a time if you wish. The whole process to make my protein smoothie takes all of 3 minutes. I am 9 1/2 months pregnant, and trust me, if it were difficult to use, I wouldn’t use it! The cleanup is amazingly simple. I just rinse the removable blade in hot water and replace. I simply rinse the cups and caps the same way, and it’s ready for tomorrow. I make my smoothies with frozen and fresh fruit, juice and protein powder. I think the people who say it doesn’t work well dont make smoothies correctly – you need a liquid in order for the ice or frozen pieces to rotate around the blades – this is true for even the very best blenders. If youa re like me and want a smoothie daily, with minimal work, mess or clean up, and only want to use a small bit of counter space… It’s PERFECT!

Good blender., July 25, 2010

This blender works very well, in my opinion. It doesn’t usually completely obliterate ice, but it does a good job. If you run it long enough, however, I’ve found that there’s no chunks of ice. And even if you don’t, the chunks aren’t that big of a deal to me. It’s my first blender, and I like it a lot. There was a burning smell when I ran it the first few times, but my dad says that usually happens. I’ve only used it to make smoothies and it makes those wonderfully.

If you buy the one with the food processor (which I’ve also never had one of) the food processor isn’t that great. I’ve found that I have to stop it often to put the food on the blades, and because of that it takes a very long time to puree anything. I’ve only tried very soft things (avocado, silken tofu), but they took a very long time to puree. The food processor overall is just awkward–to handle, to wash, to dry. It takes some getting used to.

Since this review is, on amazon, just for the blender I rated it a four. If it was for just the food processor I probably would’ve given a 2.5.

Glass makes the difference, January 28, 2009

The glass container really sets this blender apart. It doesn’t stain, it’s easier to clean then plastic and just plain looks classier. Also, I’ve always had trouble with frozen drink mixes (the bottom blends, but the top part never moves down to the bottom). I always thought I didn’t do it right. I never have that problem with this blender — cheers to a well blended margarita!

I’m glad I decided on this blender. A bit expensive, I think, but you definitely get your money’s worth. It blends smoothly and efficiently, and I love that the container is solid glass rather than plastic. I recommend this very highly.

Awesome and Perfect for Smoothies!!!, July 26, 2008

I was looking for an inexpensive small personal blender that was powerful, easy to use, and could blend a perfect smoothie. I did a lot of research and looked into about a dozen other brands including the famed “Magic Bullet”. What I found out was that not all personal blenders are made equal. The “Magic Bullet” didn’t get very good reviews even though it is by far the most popular. After all my intense research, I settled on this one… The Hamilton Beach Single Serve Blender. Here’s the scoop on what makes this surprising blender the “cream of the crop”

Pros:

-Simple and easy to use

-Easy to Clean

-Powerful enough to chop frozen fruits (and probably ice too)

-Pulse button allows you more control because you can start or stop it.

-Seems very sturdy and only has 3 parts to it. (lid, glass, and base)

-This thing is freaking cheap… got mine for .

-Blends Smoothies perfectly with no unchopped pieces of fruit.

-Power cord can be tucked in and wrapped around bottom of base for storage.

Cons:

-Emits a slight ‘burnt oil’ odor while it is in operation… but it’s not as bad as it sounds.

-The Lid seems kind of flimsy.

Conclusion:

At this little blender is not only a bargain, it gets the job done and does it well! In fact, it works just as well as my friend’s personal blender which costs more than twice the amount I spent on this one. The elegance and simplicity of the design is also to be admired. The plastic blending container also doubles as a travel mug and the Lid to it doubles as a sipping lid when used as a travel mug. It’s a nice surprise to see a product in which you can see that they put a lot of thought into it’s design. It’s positive aspects greatly outshine the few negatives… especially when considering the price. So if you need an amazing blender but you’re on a budget, pick this one up and never look back! By the way, this thing is also available elsewhere… like “Wally World” and “Target” …and at the same low price

Great design, go easy on the motor, though, December 26, 2008

I got this for my 17 year old son to make smoothies. He made the most delicious peach smoothie from ice and the Big Train Fruit Tea Smoothie Blast syrup also bought on Amazon. The consistency was smooth and perfect, just like a professional frozen drink. I asked him to make me one. On the second smoothie the motor died. We thought maybe it needed a little “rest” but sadly, it was the end of the road for that blender. When pressed for details, my son admitted that he noticed a burning smell before the motor stopped dead, and yet he kept pressing that button! Bottom line: great design, lightweight, nice personal cup size, easy storage and cleanup. The motor is just not very powerful, and can’t take long blending times. Still, we are going to order a replacement and see if a bit more TLC while blending gives this blender better shelf life. Seems like it worked for some of the other reviewers.

Update: we got the new blender and it is working out great. You just have to be careful to pulse the blender as you go along, and stop for a few seconds (10?) if you start to smell the motor smell. Ice is blended into drinks very well, with no big chunks. The only downside is the no dishwasher requirement. I feel pretty tempted to try it, but as this is already the second blender I will resist.

Works nicely for mixing up those breakfast protein shakes but the lid started cracking after only 3 months of daily use so when mixing it leaks at that point, I have to try to plug it with my finger to stop it from leaking onto the counter, other then that i’m happy with how easy it is to use and clean.

Exceptional Blender and a great price for the quality, September 23, 2010

I have had this blender for 2 1/2 years now and it still works excellent. I have been able to make the creamiest smoothies with it. For example I can blend strawberries and blueberries with bananas so well that there are no longer any seeds or grainy texture present. I will definitely purchase this blender again if I need a new one in the future.

Milkshake heaven!, December 23, 2009

I’ve had this blender about 3 weeks and it’s running fine. I don’t think all the buttons make much difference in speed/torque but it blends well and that’s what I bought it to do. I haven’t tried blending ice yet but my neighbor’s unit blends it very well. That’s why I bought this model. I figured if her’s chopped ice then it ought to handle ice cream, milk and chocolate OK too. So far I’m not disappointed.

I had a 0 Waring (Copper base) blender that fell apart after several months of use so I thought I’d give a cheaper name/model a chance.

I’m amazed this blender has no reviews!, August 30, 2008

I purchased this blender about a year ago from Wal-Mart. I’ve had a number of blenders over the past 30+ years but always ended up giving them away because I seldom if ever used them — too much bother — and have this thing about getting rid of unused stuff but finding yet another excuse why I “need” to buy another blender. I got it strictly for smoothies. My sister convinced me they were good for me, but I wasn’t about to pay -4 a pop for one smoothie. I was going to do all the research but saw this blender in Wal-Mart and just liked how it looked and really liked the price, around at the time. I thought the spout thingee was neat, but I was really blown away by the 500 watts on this thing. I figured how bad could it be with 500 watts. If it blew out after recouping the price of 4-5 smoothies, it would be a fair tradeoff in my view. I’m not a technical person but after comparing the wattage of this one with the others on display, I thought what have I got to lose?

It’s plastic, very lightweight and easy to move around. That works for me. Soooo easy to clean and disassemble when doing a thorough clean. Immediately after use I rinse it, fill it less than half full with hot water and a drop of liquid detergent, hold the lid down and give it a couple of whirls on pulse. Take it off and shake it around to get the top clean, then rinse again and make sure I open the spout to let it drain. If you don’t clean it right away, you’ll have to scrub it clean. You can disengage the spout, replacing it with the screw cap at the bottom of base, if you don’t want to use the spout. My smoothies are so thick now I just pour it out.

The first few times I used it, I smelled burning rubber but I do push this thing as far as filling it with ice and whatever else I want and doing it as quickly as I can, using the setting that gives me the quickest results, be that pulse or smoothie or whatever. Again, I like this blender so much I figure I’ll replace it with the same if I blow it and it’s not under warranty. So far, so good. (It’s a 3-year warranty.)

No more burning rubber even though I still fill it with ice and a mixture of everything. I’m reading “Green for Life” so I’ve added greens, celery, carrots and other vegetables, chia seed gel, flax seed, a little honey, etc., to my juice and fruit mixtures, both frozen banana and other fresh and frozen fruit, all of these things at the same time. DELICIOUS! My husband didn’t like the vegetables added at first but now he really looks forward to them, which is just about every day or every other day now. The blender works like a charm. It doesn’t pulverize the greens (spinach or romaine lettuce)100%. There’s a small amount of greens that doesn’t get chopped up – but very minute bits that aren’t that noticeable and not worth the price for a higher-priced, “better” blender, as none of them get 5-star reviews anyway and mine works well enough to suit my needs. No problem whatsoever with ice. It has only bogged down on me once, but I just turned it off and nudged it around with wooden spoon and it’s been good to go. Now, if I can remember, I put the ice cubes in after the juice, which is first. Sometimes I put them in last.

I’m not that easy to please, but I’m very satisfied with this blender. It’s still a pleasure to use. I’m sending one to my son for his bday.

A great party blender, November 26, 2009

I bought 2 Wavestations this summer for an annual beach blender party I throw. Armed with a portable generator and tiki bar, I literally mixed over 100 batches of frozen drinks in each unit in just one afternoon (I stopped counting at 100). I have bartended professionally and recreationally for over 20 yrs and I have never run across a commercial blender, let alone a household version that can create fast, consistent smooth blends AND serve them to the last drop from a built in pour tap without ever having to remove the top from the base. Yes, the tap actually works, and works great! I’m buying more just in case some corporate idiot decides to drop the line. Don’t let the low price scare you, the Wavestation is really one of those rare items today that actually work as advertised. Enjoy, and remember to party in moderation, or at least give your car keys to somebody how can!

Don’t buy this – get a real blender, September 1, 2009

I bought this for at Wal-Mart, and after using it for a few weeks, I went back and bought an Oster blender for and I am so much happier. With this Hamilton Beach Wave Station, my smoothies had ice chips, which I could ignore, but what really sent me back to the store was that the way the bottom is attached to the blender, you have to take it apart every time you use it because otherwise the smoothie gets down into the threads of the blender at the bottom and then spoils. Disgusting! Just washing out the blender doesn’t get the smoothie out of that area.
