I was looking for a smoothie blender and this one works great! I use frozen fruit and sometimes ice and and it blends both with ease for a nice smooth consistency. It’s also easy to clean. It only takes me 5 minutes in the morning from start to clean up to have the perfect smoothie.

Best blender I’ve ever used!, July 15, 2010

Andrea Ada (APO, AP, US) – See all my reviews
This review is from: Oster BVTY06-Z15-000 eLume Touchscreen Blender

I usually dread making my post work out shakes and would rather mix it up in water because I can’t stand the ice chunks that most blenders leave behind. This blender has my shake ready without the clumps, perfectly frothy, with the right textures. I haven’t been this excited about a product in a while, and that’s pretty sad. I highly recommend that you stop searching and buy this blender today!

Great Blender…, November 27, 2009
This review is from: Oster 6878-042 Core 16-Speed Blender with Glass Jar, Black (Kitchen)

I think this is a great blender, crushes ice to make the perfect smoothies. I read some other review saying something abotu the bottom leaking. The bottom can be taken off and screwed back on to prevent any leaking. I haven’t tried the food processor yet but the blender itself is worth the money.

nice blender but where are the attachments?, July 6, 2010
This review is from: Oster 6878-042 Core 16-Speed Blender with Glass Jar, Black (Kitchen)

Comes with a food processor which is fantastic but you have to purchase the attachments for the food processor separately so really it’s not like you’re getting much since you can’t really use it as a “food processor” until you get the nifty add ons. The blender has a sleek design.

The buttons feel like they’re going to give after a few months but it works really well. I can’t really down it for the way it “seems” so I think it’s an excellent blender thus far.

I used it to blend ice, puree squash, and both things turned out really well!

Exactly as advertised.

This is a great blender. I have not had any problem since purchased 3 months ago. It blends thoroughly without any mess / leaks. I appreciate the levels of control at different speeds – including the pulse feature. Packaged carefully and shipped fast. What a wonderful shopping experience. Looking forward to doing business again.

This review is from: Oster 6684 12-Speed Blender, Black (Kitchen)

First, let me respond to a few poor reviews that made me a little concerned about purchasing this blender. One reviewer said “The little plastic “plug” in the lid fell through into the blender as I was using it”. He may have gotten a defective one, but the one that I got would have no realistic way for the plastic “plug” to fall through the hole in the lid. It is very well made and would have to be forced VERY HARD for it to even have a chance of making it through – regardless of the angle at which you put the plug. Another reviewer said “the one I received had a jar that did not sit comfortably on base.” Again, if that happened I hate it for that guy. The jar I got sat on the base quite well. Another reviewer said, “You CANNOT get your goods back out of this thing without making a mess.” The blender I got is very easy to pour from.

Now let me tell you how awesome this thing is. I had a Hamilton Beach blender for a few years that did okay. It would make smoothies and shakes, but would take quite a while and would ALWAYS leave chunks of ice that did not get blended. Even if I left it on for a full minute it would not get the job done. When I used this new Oster 6684 for the first time I made a shake the way that I normally do with some fruit, milk, and ice. After about 10 seconds I could not find a single chuck of ice in the entire shake. In two years with my old blender there were always chunks of ice – always. I could not be any happier with the Oster. Hope this is helpful.

Really good blender!, November 24, 2007
By
Stargazer (Kentucky USA) – See all my reviews
This review is from: Oster 6684 12-Speed Blender, Black (Kitchen)

This is my first blender, and I’m sure there are many other good blenders out there. However I would love to explain why I chose this particulare one and why I love it so much.

It’s simple to use, easy to take apart for cleaning, although the base is plastic it is very strong and the gear for the blade in the base is metal unlike the higher end more expensive models which use a plastic or nylon gear. And still, the base is not flimsy and something that can easily break. It really is designed very well with a nice weight to stay put on your counter when blending. It won’t be tipping over.

Actually, I would prefer the base made how Oster did this with the plastic/nylon instead of metal, keeping the cost way down instead of to 0 just to have an all metal base.

When I got my Oster 12-speed Blender, trying it out I really liked seeing how powerful the motor is. Actually alot more powerful then I expected for what I paid for it.

Also I really love the fact that the jar itself is actual glass and not some plastic. With a nice heavy weight to it.

I can really see this blender lasting a very long time. Excellent design and construction. Powerful motor. Easy cleaning. Big enough to get the job done but not to big to take up alot of counter space. Metal gear to last a long time. Actual thick glass jar. And priced unbelievably low.

Enjoy!

works well, but manfacturer makes it difficult to fix simple problem yourself, July 27, 2007
By
Music Fan Jeff (San Francisco, CA United States) – See all my reviews
This review is from: Oster 6684 12-Speed Blender, Black (Kitchen)

I actually own the Oster 6646 but am writing the review here because the 6646 appears to be no longer caried by Amazon and the 6684 is simply the black version of the 6646.

First, the good: This blender does a very good job of blending ingredients, including frozen ones, into drinks of consistent texture. No lumpy pieces of fruit or bits of ice hiding in the drink. It also does a good job of pulling the ingredients down the side of the jar and around the blades so that everything gets blended properly.

Now, the bad: Shortly after my 1-year warranty expired, I turned on my blender one day and it abruptly turned off after about one second. I actually think this was my fault as I didn’t have the jar seated quite right and I had some ice cubes at the bottom of the jar right by the blades. At any rate, to make a long story short I was left with the option to either (a) pay to get the blender repaired, which would have cost over half what one costs new; (b) throw the blender away; or (c) try to fix the thing myself. I had a hunch that perhaps I could find a fuse inside that had blown, so I attempted to take apart the blender. I tried A LOT of different screwdrivers, both at home and at work, and I could not get any of them to grip the screws properly to remove them. I took the blender to my local hardware store and, after a lot of patience, was finally able to remove the screws. While I readily found a fuse, the hardware store said they didn’t have a matching replacement fuse. A little frustrated but still determined, I went to yet another hardware store; a seemingly knowledgeable clerk there told me that I would probably have a hard time finding the proper fuse because of the filament design, even though the fuse is labeled as a 5 amp 125 volt fuse. Still determined, I went to Radio Shack. Though they did not have a fuse that looked the same in terms of filament, the guy there assured me that a slow blowing 5 amp 250 volt fuse should work just fine. And guess what — he was right. So now I have an additional three back up fuses in case it blows again, for a total out of pocket cost of less than 10% what a new blender would cost. Now my search is on for replacement screws so I can attach the bottom of the unit to the base again.

I guess I can’t totally fault Oster for not making a consumer level repair more easy. I think this is true across the board for consumer electronics today. Still, I hate to think of all of the perfectly good machines out there that get tossed in the garbage and end up in a landfill (even though there are toxic components inside) that just maybe would be put back into service by the people who owned them if the manufacturer gave simple instructions for something as simple as replacing a fuse and didn’t assemble the device so as to discourage people from trying to take it apart.

Great blender with chopper, no food-processor, really, August 18, 2009
This review is from: Oster 6889 Core 12-Speed Blender with Glass Jar, Black (Kitchen)

All the gripes people have here are legit, that this is not substitute for a food processor unless you are looking for only chopping, which was the case for me.

As everyone else agrees, the blender part is great.

The “food processor” unit is excellent too for chopping only. The jar is large enough for two big onions or three medium onions (in quarter slices) at a time. But if you want slicing, grating etc. you need to buy some rare accessories that are not available on Amazon, Ebay, or even Oster website. May be you can call them to get those … But I didn’t need them and so didn’t bother to. If you really want a combo that can do the job of both a blender and food processor, buy the Hamilton Beach combo.

works good for me!, April 7, 2009
This review is from: Oster 6889 Core 12-Speed Blender with Glass Jar, Black (Kitchen)

I bought this item a month ago, and so far, so good. Works wonder on ice, making excellent smoothies & cocktails. A little loud, but hey, who cares when your making pina coladas, right? The food processor attachment did not come with the shredding/slicing disc or the push-through top, but can be purchased optionally. I made guacamole with it and was very pleased with the results. As for the blender seal leak mentioned in a previous review, I don’t normally take the blender completely apart to clean it, instead cleaning it immediately after each use. I did just purchase some replacement seals for when (if) the bottom starts to leak. I also scored a Blend-N-Go, which I can’t wait to try out! What I really like about Oster in general is that I can order parts, instead of buying a whole new blender.

A Superior Product, April 21, 2009
This review is from: Oster 4096-009 Designer Series Beehive Blender, Chrome (Kitchen)

I recently purchased the Oster 4096-009 because my old blender couldn’t handle making the frozen fruit smoothies I really enjoy. I chose this product because the brand and style has been around since my mother was young. I was a little turned off by the idea of the glass beaker so I ordered the stainless replacement and put away the glass one. I also ordered the blend-n-go cup because of the smoothie thing. The blender is awesome. It looks great on my countertop and works better than any I have ever owned. Don’t be put off by the concept that this blender only has two speeds – that’s all you need. Be honest – how many times have you used anything more than pulse or full bore on your blender? I thought about it and realized that was all I ever used. This is one heavy duty unit, capable of reducting ice to snow and frozen fruit and alcohol into some incredible frozen drinks. A must have for anyone who’s into shakes, smoothies or other blended products.

GREAT DEAL!, July 19, 2009

This review is from: Oster 4096-009 Designer Series Beehive Blender, Chrome (Kitchen)

My new “beehive” sits next to my soon-to-be-repaired 0+ KitchenAid, and it works great. I make smoothies every morning for breakfast and this baby kicks it. My son is brutal: ignores all procedural instructions, fills it with p.b., bananas, ice, and yogurt and then turns it on! It pauses a second then gets right to work. I’m like, “you have to put the ice in while it’s running,” and he’s, “No you don’t.” We rarely take it apart to clean it, just rinse right away, sometimes a little suds, eh voila, it’s done. I can tell you though the blades they are sharp!

Regarding other reviews, it is loud, but hey, it’s a blender! And do not need any other speeds, just the one and pulse. Can’t say about frozen drinks/ice slushees, however does fine with ice for smoothies. Great deal!

My old blender was an Oster; we got it when we were married 40 years ago. I loved it and finally wore it out. Naturally my new blender had to be an Oster. I love the Beehive; it does exactly what it promises. With only 2 speeds it does what my older 8 speed did only more quickly and effeciently. It is very classy looking too.

This review is from: Oster 6811 Core 12-Speed Blender with Glass Jar, Brushed Nickel (Kitchen)

While I only purchased this blender a month ago,the the metal to metal design has been around a long time and is proven. I actually replaced an old Avocato Oster (circa 70′s) blender that worked fine with a top of the line Kitchenaid three speed that I was finally glad to throw out. I have no axe to grind with Kitchenaid and own other of their products that work fine.

I don’t care what brand you buy but make sure that both the cup and the gear drive are both made of metal – metal to metal. If either is plastic, you’ll be tossing it in five years or less. (Kitchenaid)

Performance: tried crushing ice with this on high speed and it worked fabulously. Tried again on the low speed with the same results. Nice smooth ice and no chips.

Also just used it to make a fine powder from soda crackers for a meatball recipe. Perfect. Nice soft powder, no chunks of crackers.

My only other comment was price. If you do not need the Brushed Nickel, save the money ( dollars at least) and buy a colored one. They are identical in operation and function.

I’ve purchased a lot of products from Amazon but not sure this one was the best price. If I had shopped around I could have found this cheaper elsewhere. To me the so called free shipping of was added to the price is all.

We bought this Oster to replace our burned out Cuisinart blender (which was 3 times as expensive and burned out right after the warranty expired). There is no comparison…the Oster is amazing, and works so much better than the Cuisinart. We now realize that the Cuisinart never really blended ice well, and we were settling for a so-so blender. The Oster performs better than any blender we’ve had before.

The blender has a high speed and a low-speed pulse control, which can be held down for continuous action. Its 40-ounce, ribbed-and-tapered glass container fits onto Oster’s distinctive beehive-shaped base, which is clad in lustrous chrome and outfitted with slip-proof rubber feet. I’ve burned through 3 other brands of blenders — each time the plastic “spinner” in the motor base (which mates to a plastic spinner in the pitcher’s base that turns the blade) broke. Finally we decided to try out the Oster “Classic” because it uses a metal shaft that fits directly into the pitcher’s base to turn the blades rather than the plastic disks that all the newer blender designs seem to use. That does the trick. I make a lot of fruit smoothies using frozen fruit — which can be pretty hard on blenders — but so far the Oster Classic has been up to the task. I highly recommend it!

Simple does it best, August 17, 2002

This review is from: Oster 4093 Classic Beehive Blender, Chrome (Kitchen)

We bought this blender after a horrid experience with some Cuisianart mulit-speed blender that turned out to be a piece of … Originally I was attracted to all the bells and whistles, but after all that leaked on the first pouring, I realized we had a problem, Houston.

After cruising the ratings here, we bought the basic, two-speed (read: go and pulse) GORGEOUS chrome beehive blender. Somehow we got the one that had the mini-jar for dressings, the food processor, and milkshake blade with chrome cannister, all for less than the Cuisinart Multi-Function Mistake. :)

This thing kicks. I’ve made dressings in it, and it was done with ease and they were blended well. Most importantly, I’ve made several batches of adult drinks involving ice, and as long as you add the ice a few cubes at a time, it turns out perfectly smooth (no ice chips hitting your teeth as you tip the glass).

I LOVE OUR OSTERIZER BEEHIVE BLENDER!!!! Simple is really all you need in a blender. If it’s something that needs a bit of mixing, hit the pulse button as needed. If it’s serious mixing, turn it on. In my opinion, speed 3, 6, and 9 are not required. This does it all, and looks MIGHTY fine while doing it. If only we had the counter space to leave it out…….it’s SO pretty!!!!

Happy blending, anything!
Shinda

High hopes trashed!, May 1, 2005
This review is from: Oster 4093 Classic Beehive Blender, Chrome (Kitchen)

We purchased this blender about 2 years ago, mainly based on price, simplicity of design and reviews from Amazon. After living with a high-maintenance Kitchen-Aid blender (all those little parts to clean!), The Oster seemed liked the answer to our blender dreams. Unfortunately after weekly use simply for smoothies, it quickly became apparent that this Oster was not like its formidable ancestors…

The power is totally inadequate. Food constantly overwhelms the blade and any kind of blending totally stops. Close to its 2-year birthday, it gave up the will to live – following a weird grinding noise, smoke came from the base and then…. nothing. And now, here we are, searching for a new blender.

BOTTOM LINE SUMMARY: This blender performs at least as well as blenders that cost 2-3 times as much, and it has more specific speed options than the more expensive blenders.

Before I begin my review, I should start out by saying that I am a bit of a blender snob, and I collect them for fun. My sole purpose in getting this blender was to see how it compared to a KitchenAid (KSB5ER4) and a Cuisinart (BFP-10CH). Also, this is an initial, first-time usage review – I will keep the review updated over time so I can attest for its longevity, consistency, etc.

That being said, I am very impressed with this blender. It is consistent with the quality that I expect from Oster. It blended the same Strawberry Banana Smoothie that I always make MUCH better than the 7-year old KitchenAid blender that I often use – no chunks whatsoever. I tested the ice crush feature, and it made mince meat out of ice in 2-3 seconds. In fact, I would dare say that it crushes ice perfectly, and faster than any of my other blenders. I also appreciate the Easy Clean feature – a definite bonus. I like the metal drive shaft MUCH better than the plastic teeth on the KitchenAid and Cuisinart – there is no guesswork as far as where/when to place the jar on top of the base; no teeth that could potentially break/wear (note: the teeth have never broken on my KitchenAid or Cuisinart, so I am just speaking about potentialities). The jar is designed for MUCH easier pouring than any other blender I have used. If you are at all concerned with the presentation/appearance of your blending results, this blender certainly delivers.

Why a 4-star instead of a 5? The plastic collar is much more fragile than other blenders I have used (also, more fragile than other Oster’s that I have seen) – in fact, I haven’t yet figured out how to get the collar off without breaking it. (Revision: I took a closer look at the bottom of the collar, and it has instructions for removing the collar – so, no problem there). :-)

The rest of my cons are very nit-picky and may not bother most people. There is no perfect manual, but I found the manual to be overly brief – in fact, I will probably find myself referring to my vintage ’70s Osterizer pamphlets for hints – the manual and blender are largely for people who are already very familiar with blenders.

If anyone is familiar with the smell of a new blender motor, this blender (along with Cuisinart and Waring blenders) has that new motor smell if you let it run for more than 15 seconds. Personally, this does not bother me, but I have noticed that it makes some people nervous. My initial ice-crush experiment actually produced ice that was infused with the smell, but a few good cleanings should solve that problem.

The lid is not the best I have ever seen – It does have a removable cap in the center, but it is black and does not have measured lines like the Cuisinart.

Louder than the KitchenAid, but quieter than the Cuisinart.

Despite these minor things, I would highly, highly recommend this blender!

Nice blender, looks good, blends good… but!, March 16, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
This review is from: Oster 6812-001 Core 16-Speed Blender with Glass Jar, Black (Kitchen)

I bought this blender to mainly make Smoothies from frozen fruits. In that it does an excellent job, the smoothies come out nice and consistent without lumps (like my old blender used to do).

Aesthetics: The blender looks much better than what I expected. It looks well built and the glass Jar looks STURDY! It stays on the counter top because it looks very good.

Cleaning: Very easy to clean, bottom assembly comes apart easily and its easy to reassemble.

Now the issue: After two days of use I noticed something that I didn’t expect in a blender. Rust! I was quite surprised to find rust in the blade. Not in the edges, but what looks like a rivet that holds the blades together. I also notices some (not much) burning smell during the first two uses. I am not much worried about the smell, this I expect to go away. But the rust isn’t something to ignore.

I was going to return it to Amazon, but decided to call Oster first. Their rep indicated that rusting could indicate a defect and they will replace the blade (sending one via mail in 7 to 10 days). I am keeping the blender and will update once i get the new blade and give it a spin.

I love, love, love this blender! I bought a Kitchenaid blender about 10 years ago and hated it everyday that I owned it, it finally broke so I got to buy a new one. My mom owns this Oster blender and I tested hers out before I bought it. I can not tell you how much better this blender is compared to the Kitchenaid! I can make a blended Margarita in less than 30 seconds and the ice is so smooth! After 2 minutes on the Kitchenaid the ice would be uneven and still have very big chuncks in it. This is an awesome blender and it’s a third of the price of the Kitchenaid.
