Heavy duty blender, December 30, 2009

I purchased this blender to use in making soap so, unfortunately, I can’t use it in “regular” kitchen food preparation. That said, it works GREAT in my large batches of soap and hasn’t let me down so far. It’s so powerful, that I really can’t imagine using it in my everyday cooking as it would pulverize everything (hey, maybe that’s a good thing … ). Anyway, if you’re looking for a blender that can handle just about any job, this is the one. (That said, I have to tell you that I found this blender for about 0 less at a “business Costco”.)

Low power is to be expected at 12 Volts, May 8, 2003

It does an average job with crushing ice to make frozen drinks. It can’t be compared to a 125 volt AC blender however.
You get a few small chunks of ice in the drink.I had to buy a manual ice crusher to crush the ice first then you get the consistency most people like .This is as good as it gets for outdoor drink making unlees you go to the gas powered blenders.(That’s next )

12 bolt blender works!, December 3, 2010

Purchased this to use on my sailboat for drinks. It works pretty good but won’t make slushies, rather it makes small chipped ice which is ok too! I later put in a 1000 watt inverter in the boat and could have used a regular blender which slush the ice a little better and are less money.

Love it for the boat!, June 22, 2010

We bought this blender after the purchase of a new boat and couldn’t be happier. No, it wouldn’t blend carrots into juice, and when you blend frosty beverages a few small chunks of ice remain – but it is fast, powerful, easy to clean, and makes those boat rides a little more fun than ever before. We would definitely recommend the blender and Amazon had the best price, as well. Note Waring only makes one 12V blender and prices are advertised all over the place, so don’t think you are getting a different or better blender just because it costs more.

Great Basic Function Blender, Especially for Ice Drinks, March 14, 2010

To be clear, I bought this blender from Target, which had the glass container version. As of this review, there isn’t an equivalent item on Amazon, so I am putting my review here. The biggest performance concern is typically the motor, blades, and assembly, so I hope others don’t mind this review.

After three months of use, it’s still great. I mainly make green tea smoothies using matcha, soy milk, and many half oval-shaped ice. Each piece of ice is about 2 inches long. This blender works great for that purpose. In the beginning, I had the safety (clutch?) mechanism kick in and disconnect the motor from the blade fairly often. This wasn’t inconvenient, though, since it let me know when to shake the contents to get more of the ice to sink to the bottom. After about 2 months of use (i.e., after wearing in the motor), the safety mechanism stopped kicking in as early, but I still stop the machine to shake the contents to ensure the ice chunks get blended. I don’t know how it is with other blenders or drinks, but when I have this fairly packed with ice, I don’t always get the whirlpool effect, so I shake the contents (with the unit off) to avoid any surprises. This whole process takes me less than 30 seconds and I mainly use the low setting.

Since I bought the glass version, cleaning the container is easy. As another reviewer said, taking apart the assembly is recommended (I think this is true of all blenders). The collar at the bottom of the carafe twists off and out comes the blades that are still attached to its pedestal (the manual calls it a seal) and the gasket (i.e., rubber ring) that goes between the container and blade pedestal (which is a high quality plastic). Cleaning the blade and pedestal is a little difficult since they don’t come apart. You have hold the blades still either from the blade end or from the bottom so it won’t spin while wiping. Another way to clean the system is to blend water and soap, then rinse the parts afterward. For anyone that cares, the bottom part of the blade assembly is metal. I find this important because it’s the part that makes contact with the hard rubber rotor of the base unit. The lid feels like a good hard rubber material. It has the plastic cap in the center that can come off and allow for you to drop in more ingredients w/o taking off the entire lid.

My main concern about this item is the rubber gasket. It will very likely fail (i.e., dry out and crack) before the other parts do. It’s a cheap component and will probably last for at least a year, so the biggest concern will just be about finding the right replacement. Overall, I am happy with this blender. Some that want more blending speeds and options may find this item limited. Those that care mostly about blending ice would probably be happy with this.

Heavy Duty Quality-Waring Pro Blender WPB80BC, September 18, 2009

This blender is really amazing. I had to get a new blender recently since my other blender wasn’t quite keeping up with the things I needed to blend. Thankfully I got this sweet piece of assembled machinery. This thing can definitely handle heavy-duty blending needs while never jamming or over-heating. Trust me, I’ve already blended at least 50 different concoctions in this bad boy and it has yet to pause for a breather. I recommend this blender with it’s 10 out of 10 quality and it’s always there for you reliability.

This is a great smoothie blender. it does a great job on the ice and makes a really smooth product. It is really loud but it definitely gets the job done. I would recommend taking it apart completely before cleaning because crud likes to get stuck under the blade.

This blender is strong, powerful and FAST. The motor spins at 45,000 RPM and makes fast work of any blending job. The connection between the motor and blending jar is metal to metal (NO PLASTIC drive parts). The price is right, check out the warranty 3 years on motor and 2 years parts and labor, but it’s built for commercial use and the way I use it – I expect it to last a long long time.

A huge advantage to me was the fact that it is only 18.5 inches tall (with the lid on, the 18″ measurement is without the lid). This allows it to sit under my upper cupboards, neither the VitaMix or Blendtec would fit when assembled.

The motor has all the power you need, but is a bit noisy – I have to wait for a TV commercial or get dirty looks from my wife. Yet it is quieter than some other blenders because of the rubber cushion between the motor base and where the blending jar sits (which is removable and easy to clean).

The blending jar is big enough to really be useful. I like to make blender – ice cream – and can store a 7 days worth in the freezer from a single batch. While there is a hole in the top of the lid, I no longer use it as there is a certain splatter factor that comes with a blender that runs this strong and fast ;->

Has Stood the Test of Time!, November 20, 2005

I bought it based on other reviews, after our previous blender broke. We use it to make smoothies with frozen fruit. Our last blender was a Black & Decker from Target for . Both the B&D and the Waring have glass bowls and stainless steel bases. But the B&D has a larger capacity and a heavier, larger base. The Waring is 300 watts and the cheaper B&D is rated at 500 watts. The next surprise was reading the instructions for the Waring. There is no mention of putting the container bowl in a dishwasher; instead one is supposed to 1) brush out with soapy water, 2) run for 2 minutes with more soapy water, 3) rinse for another 2 minutes, and finally 4) dry with a towel. Next surprise: according to the instructions, the blender should never be operated without holding one’s hand on the top. There’s a reason for this: the blender tends to “walk” around the countertop (something the B&D, with its larger base, never did). Fortunately, with a full load the Waring stays in place. We decided to ignore the instructions and place the blender bowl in the dishwasher. But the metal fitting under the glass bowl (looks like aluminum) seems to be reacting to the dishwasher detergent by breaking out in white dots. We’re hopeful that this metal fitting will be a lot stronger than the plastic screw-on fitting on the B&D, which cracked after 9 months’ daily use. Bottom line: the B&D’s weak point is its plastic, screw-off base for the impeller. If the Waring with its metal, non-removable impeller fitting stands the test of time it will have been worth the higher price.

UPDATE ON APRIL 1, 2006: The Waring has worked flawlessly in daily use for over four months now. I would give it 4 stars now instead of 3 (but Amazon won’t let me change the rating).

FURTHER UPDATE ON JANUARY 2007: It keeps plugging along, making daily smoothies without complaint. The bowl has survived hundreds of cycles in the dishwasher without problem. I’d change my rating to 5 stars if Amazon provided a way to do it.

SEVERAL MONTHS LATER: Now I know why they don’t want you to use a dishwasher. Over time the dishwasher scrubs out the lubrication on the blade shaft. Ours starting binding. Fortunately I had the tools to remove the shaft and lubricate it. Now it’s working fine again, but now we are careful just to rinse it with a brush and hot water and keep it out of the dishwasher.

NOVEMBER 2008 Update: Three years of nearly daily use now, and no further problems. (Where does the time go?)

The Original Is Still The Best!, January 1, 2001

I’ve owned a dozen blenders over the past 30 years. They all had their advantages and disadvantages, as does this one. When I tote up the pro’s and con’s, Waring still stands on top for me.

My first blender was an Osterizer in the early seventies when I was in college. It was a good machine for drink blending, but was frustrating for foods. If you look closely at the Oster container, the blades sit in an area recessed from the main container. No problem for liquids, but semisolid things such as peanut butter will jam down in there. I found that I constantly had to use a spatula to help dressings, dips, etc. blend.

When the Kitchen Aid blender was first introduced, I bought one. It was a real disappointment from the start. No matter how much I ran items, they never got uniformly smooth! I can remember running canned tomatoes, for instance, for several minutes and still they did not puree evenly. I kept it for about 6 months and gave it to one of my employees.

Roughly 10 years ago I bought my first Waring, a one-speed bar blender. Finally I had a blender that did all I wanted! I think that the trademark cloverleaf Waring design is more than hype. It truly does pull food and heavy mixtures into the blades better than competing designs. If you look at the heavy Waring glass container with its nonremovable blades, you’ll see that the bottom of the container is flat and the blades stand up above the bottom. I think this is why it works so well. Incidentally, I’ve found no problem whatsoever in not being able to take the blades out. Because of the design, a drop of d/w liquid and hot water cleans out the bottom in a second or two. However, the limitation with this machine for kitchen use was its lack of a low speed.

I bought a Cuisinart blender, then recently introduced, as I love my DLC-X food processor. Big mistake. The blender was made in China and was mostly plastic, frame and all. I burned it up making dips one New Year’s Eve. Not for heavy duty use.

I bought the Waring kitchen model, like this one but with a different design of container with removable blades. I liked the machine but it didn’t blend as well as my bar blender. Again, this seemed apparent due to the different container design. I returned it after three weeks.

Finally, I bought a two speed Waring laboratory model with timer, basically the same machine as shown here with a little different front. It has the original style container, a heavy duty motor, and has worked flawlessly for several years. I purchased the stainless steel container as an accessory, but still use the glass one most of the time. As any blender enthusiast will tell you, you only really need a low and a high speed, all the rest is window dressing.

The Waring is not only classic retro design, but its simple cylindrical base affords excellent ventilation for the motor. It also makes cleanup from spills and overflows much simpler than more elaborate models. Incidentally, you can find the heavy glass containers all the time for a buck or two at local flea markets; order new blades and lid for a fraction of the purchase price of a new set!

This is a classic kitchen design that will remain in style for many, many more years to come.

Commercial grade blender, June 22, 2000

This is the same blender that my friend bought for his smoothie business and it does the job very well. It liquifies practically everything that you ask it to including fruit pieces and ice chunks. Even the ice is chipped into a fine mix without some of the bigger chunks left over that you might find in the bottom of other less expensive brands. Bottom line is that its function is the best out there.

Powerful and High Quality, June 2, 2009

This or any of the other Waring 3.0 – 3.5 HP blenders is as powerful a home blender as you will need. Are you considering a Vita Mix or a Blendtec? Is your desire to make green smoothies? I researched other brands and bought the Waring because of its impeccable reputation. Blendtec may be the most powerful in this category, but my research tells me it is not built to last to the degree of a Waring. The Vita Mix is no doubt a fine blender, however there is so much hype associated with the company that, for me, it gets in the way of the product itself. I want a blender from a company that focuses on the blender and that has a repution for reliability and durability. I’ve only had my Waring MX1000 for a few weeks, but words “awesome”, “surprising”, and “best friend” come up whenever I see it tearing tough leaves of green kale into little bits and then into smooth green beverage. If you want to get into raw foods or just extreme nutrition, this blender will serve you exceedingly well.

UPDATE: August 26, 2010. I had a warranty matter which Waring handled promptly when I contacted them. I was very pleased. I can now say that not only will you get a great product but excellent service from a large corporation that treats you as a person.

Great Blender for Frozen Fruit Smoothies, October 16, 2010

I have been in the market for a professional / commercial grade blender for a very long time and I have spend hours researching the cost / features of several blenders. I found myself in need of a high powered blender because my Oster 6803 450 Watt blender was not up to the task of processing large chunks of frozen fruit for smoothies, and would simply lock up. I ended up looking into the blenders that dessert and smoothie shops use and that what lead me to the Waring MX line of blenders, the Vitamix 5200, and the Blendtec 1560-Watt Blender.

After comparing all three blenders I opted to go with the Waring due to the MX series all metal construction between the drive shaft and the gears on the actual carafe, the lower price, and the fact that the Warring also has models lacking the electronic membrane keyboard interface (Unnecessarily complex and very expensive to repair down the line). The replacement carafe on the MX line is much less than the other brands. Most importantly I found that more restaurants are using the Waring series of blenders, as these machines are designed to produce in excess of a hundred smoothies a day under normal use.

I was initially going to order the Waring MX1000R which is the highest end blender that Waring advertises towards it’s home user market, however that model has a smaller 3.0 HP motor and is around more than the more expensive MX1000XT which is the entry level commercial blender with a 3.5 HP motor. Other than the larger motor, the two units are identical with the same carafes, switches, and accessorizes. In the end I ended up purchasing the Waring MX1000XT 3.5 HP blender for the lower cost and I could not be happier.

*** A word of caution, no matter how powerful the blender, you will need some level of liquid in order to properly blend things. I have filled the entire unit with frozen fruit, however some juice is needed to get the blending process started.***
